What is this?

Wep Ronpet is the Kemetic New Year! In antiquity, the exact date was dependent on the rising of Sopdet/Sirius which also marked the beginning of the annual flooding of the Nile, and thus you might hear people in the modern Kemetic community start celebrating as early as July and as late as August depending on their latitude and tradition. Many people celebrate with cleansing and execrations, including smashing red pots that have things people want to be rid of in the new year written on them or making representations of a/p/e/p to be destroyed and/or consumed.

Leading up to the new year are the Epagomenal Days aka the days outside of the year where Nut was able to give birth to her five children: Wesir, Heru-Wer, Sutekh, Aset, and Nebthet. We generally give an offering on each day to these Netjeru to celebrate their birthdays!

I've localized my practice for my location, and so I don't typically begin celebrating until closer to the end of August. For 2025 I'll be making small offerings and performing some sort of act of creation for each of Nut and Geb's children which I'll be documenting on tumblr in addition to re-revealing my mini-shrines here on neocities.
